Volusia Literacy Council is an independent, non-profit organization that provides free tutoring for adults in reading, writing, math, English as a Second Language, GED preparation and Citizenship classes. Governed by a volunteer board of directors, the Council’s mission is to affect community-wide changes by improving the basic literacy skills of adults and to increase literacy awareness.

First Step Shelter opened on December 11th, 2019 as a Homeless shelter for single adults in Volusia County.  We are not just a place for homeless individuals to sleep and get a hot meal, we offer health, addiction, and counseling services as well as helping residents find jobs and housing.
